Special Notes:

#1        Riders must assemble in Half Moon Bay HS Parking lot in 30 rider groups according to start times 15 minutes prior to field start. Riders will be escorted from HMB HS to start line carefully observing all traffic regulations and conscious of the image of racing cyclists. Riders must not arrive at start line unescorted. This will be grounds for summary DQ.

#2       Please bring trainers for warmups inside HMB HS parking lots. No warmups will be allowed on HMB streets or Hwy 1. Warmups on HMB streets and Hwy 1 will be grounds for summary DQ for balance of Pilarcitos Stage Race

#3        Due to the narrow country roads used for the racecourse absolutely no rider or team or family vehicles can be allowed on the race course at any time. At conclusion of event riders may return on their bicycles via Hwy 1 to Half Moon Bay HS for results postings and prize ceremonies or assemble at designated parking areas on Tunitas Creek Road or Lobitos Creek Road to return riders to HMB. Please cooperate with parking attendants and follow signage. Finish line will be approx. 1/3 mile from Hwy 1 for those wishing to walk to site from parking.

#4        Centerline Regulations – there are no centerline regulations because these extremely narrow roads have NO centerline. Common sense dictates your behavior.
Every corner will be marshaled for racer course directions, alerting oncoming traffic to your presence and to control race traffic in the event of oncoming traffic. Marshals will be stopping you if circumstances dictate, not traffic. This is a compromise, required on open roads. Think of each intersection as a European train level crossing – even Johan Museeuw stops for the trains.

Why such requirements?

The first reason is for the safety of our neighbors who live on and regularly travel on these roads. They should not have to be confronted with misbehaving cyclists in their backyard and forced off the roads or inconvenienced by thoughtless racers. Passing on blind turns, ignoring stop signs, and blocking the roads jeopardizes their safety and ignores their rights in their neighborhood. Please follow the California Vehicle Code, just like legitimate and responsible auto traffic.

The second reason is for your own safety. With your cooperation the roads make a wonderful race course and little traffic is expected at this time of the weekend – but it only takes 1 innocent civilian car traveling down a narrow road encountering riders intent only on their race for potential mayhem to occur.

#5  Please bring a pump and a spare in order to complete stage to qualify for Stage 2 start. Due to the nature of the country roads there are no safe places on the course for any vehicles to stop, pull over and provide mechanical service.

#6 There will be no feeding on this course.
