Stage Race rules will apply

Entrants must successfully complete each stage in order to be eligible for next stage.
Each stage timed and GC based upon points scored in each stage.
Timed Stage Race based upon points with timing by Tom Simonson

Here’s how we plan the scoring for this timed stage race. Our intent is to reward the best overall riders with each stage emphasizing different cycling specialties. Stage 1 rewards the best climber, Stage 2 rewards the best rouleur, and Stage 3 rewards the best sprinter. Each stage is timed and points awarded for each riders finish. The rider with the most points wins the Stage Race, not lowest elapsed time. The points are determined by the number of entrants in each stage, i.e. 50 entrants in the stage so the winner gets 50 points, 2nd place gets 49 points, etc. Here’s a hypothetical example:

Stage 1 (77 entrants)
                                          Time                           Points
1) Eddy Merckx                   55.22                        77points – GC Leader
2) Roger de Vlaeminck        55.30                         76 points
3) Greg Lemond                 57:01                         75 points
4) Francesco Moser           59.13                          74 points
5) Tom Simpson                 59.51                          73 points

Stage 2 (75 entrants – 2 dnf’s)

Time               Stage Points              GC

1) Moser                            15.18              75 points                    149 points
2) Simpson                          15.21              74 points                    147
3) Merckx                            16.22              73 points                    150 – GC Leader
4) De Vlaeminck                  16.50              72 points                    146
5) LeMond                           17.19              71 points                    146

Stage 3 (74 entrants – 1 dnf) Criterium with bonus points available for 2
Prime laps and final sprint

                                                Stage Points                                                  GC Final
1) Simpson                            74 (plus 5 points bonus sprints)                  227 – winner
2) LeMond                             73 (no bonus points)                                     219
3) De Vlaeminck                   72 (4 bonus sprint points)                            222
4) Moser                                 71 (1 bonus sprint point)                              221
5) Merckx                               70 (2 bonus sprint points)                            222

So, even though Simpson got skunked on the opening stage TT by 5 minutes, he scored enough points in the remaining 2 stages to take the title. Time is used to establish finish order for each stage and then the points are awarded for GC positions. Best all rounder takes the GC prize but the specialists also have a chance on each stage to score, regardless of their GC position.
